CityGuide DMS - Documentation - Drawing

 
The "Drawing-Mode" gives you control over an editor including a complete set of tools such as line, ellipse, rectangle, polygone, text, clipart and much more.

 
Along with this editor you can choose from the following menu options:
 


 

Drawing off
Turns the editor off.
 

New
Creates a new drawing.
 

Open...
A previously saved drawing can be loaded from you local hard drive.
 
Save / Save as...
A newly created or previously opened drawing can be saved to your local computer with this menu entry.
 
Direct help...
Invokes this program documentation.
 

Once the drawing mode is activated, a new toolbar of the editor is shown at the top border of the map window. 
 

Please click on an area of the toolbar that you wish to learn more about:

If you start the editor for the first time, just go ahead and create a new drawing. By playing around with the embedded tools you will see how easy it is to use.

 

 
 
 Drawing - Create Lines
  • Select the line symbol from the toolbar.
     
  • Now click on the map window with your left mouse button in order to add a new knot. Repeat this action for every new line you wish to add.
     
  • Click with your right mouse button on the map window in order to erase the last knot you added.
     
  • Grabbing the black handles with your left mouse button lets you move around the knots you created.
     
  • The options of the line can be set using the Properties Dialogue.
     

 
 
 Drawing - Create Ellipsoids
  • Select the above tool symbol from your drawing toolbar.
     
  • Click on the map window with your left mouse button and hold it down.
     
  • Now open the ellipse by moving your mouse to the lower right. Pressing the [CTRL]-key at the same time will keep the origin of your ellipse in the center of the screen, otherwise it will be in the upper left. When holding the [SHIFT]-Key, your ellipse will be evenly opened.
     
  • Now release the mouse button.
     
  • Choose the Properties Dialogue in order to change the options of your ellipse, close it afterwards.
     
  • Using the black handles you may alter height and width of your ellipse at any time.
     

 
 
 Drawing - Create Rectangles
  • Select the above shown symbol from the toolbar.
     
  • Left-click with your mouse on the map window and hold down the mouse button.
     
  • Now open the rectangle to the lower right. While pressing the [CTRL]-key at the same time you can keep the origin of the rectangle centered, otherwise it will be in the upper left. When pressing the [SHIFT]-key at the same time the rectangle will be opened as a perfect square.
     
  • Now release the mouse button.
     
  • Choose the Properties Dialogue to customize your rectangle and close it once you are done.
     
  • Using the black handles you can alter your rectangles width and height.
     

 
 
 Drawing - Create Polygons
  • Select the above shown symbol from the toolbar.
     
  • Left-click with your mouse into the map window in order to create a new knot for the polygon.
     
  • Right-click into the map window in order to erase the knot you previously created.
     
  • Using the black handles you may move the knots of your polygon around until it fits your purpose.
     
  • The preferences of your polygon can be customized by using the Properties Dialogue.

 

 
 
 Drawing - Add Text
  • Select the above shown symbol from the toolbar.
     
  • Left-click with your mouse into the map window in order to insert text at that location.
     
  • Choose the Properties Dialogue for your text. There you may also apply options to several rows of text. Close the dialogue afterwards.

 

 
 
 Drawing - Insert Clipart
  • Select the above shown symbol from the toolbar.
     
  • Left-click with your mouse on the map window, a picture will be inserted at that location.
     
  • Use the Properties Dialogue to choose the filename of the desired picture and close it afterwards.
     
  • Using the black handles you can alter width and height of your picture afterwards.

 

 
 
 Drawing - Select Elements   
  • Select the above shown symbol from the toolbar.
     
  • Left-click with your mouse onto the desired element to activate it. Hold down the [SHIFT]-key to select more than one element.
     
  • Left-click with your mouse on the selected elements and keep the button pressed. Now drag the selection to the desired location and release the mouse button once you are done.
     
  • Double-click on an element to invoke the Properties Dialogue. This will however not work when more than one element is activated.

 

 
 
 Drawing - Element Properties
  • Select the above shown symbol from the toolbar or press the [ENTER]-key alternatively.
     
  • Depending on the chosen element you will be displayed the respective Properties Dialogue, which allows you to adjust several parameters.
     
  • Activate the "Standard" check box in the dialogue window in order to use the adjusted properties for all new elements.

Properties of Lines

You can alter the following parameters of a line: line strength and line color.
 


 

Properties of Ellipses, Rectangles and Polygons

You can alter the following parameters for ellipses, rectangles and polygons: line strength, line color, fill mode and fill color.
 


 

Properties of Text Elements

You can alter the following text properties: text color, text font, font size, font style and the text itself. Additionally you may add several lines of text.
 


 

Properties of Images

You may insert pictures either from a given clipart or from a local file into the current drawing. Choose between <From template>, to add a given picture from prepared clipart or <From file:>, to add a picture from a local folder on your computer.
 

  

 
 
 Drawing - Move Elements to the Front
  • Select the above shown symbol from the toolbar. All currently chosen elements in the drawing will be moved one layer up towards the user.

 

 
 
 Drawing - Move Elements to the Back
  • Select the above shown symbol from the toolbar. All currently chosen elements in the drawing will be moved one layer down away from the user.

 

 
 
 Drawing - Duplicate Elements
  • Select the above shown symbol from the toolbar or press the hotkey [CTRL-D]. All chosen elements will now be duplicated and located next to to their originals on the map window.

 

 
 
Element löschen...  Drawing - Delete Elements
  • Select the above shown symbol from the toolbar or press the [DELETE]-key alternatively. All chosen elements will now be deleted from your drawing.
